Mariano
For many years Mariano Rodriguez has invited customers to the wholesale shop to tell them about the origin, quality, taste and custom of hundreds of Spanish wines and delicacies, stories and reflections on craft, methods and tradition.
At Mariano we offer themed evenings, wine tastings and range tastings, training courses and exciting performances. A wine tasting guides you through selected grapes and regions, while a range tasting lets you discover the full breadth of both wines and delicacies side by side. We do this above all for restaurateurs and shop staff, but just as gladly for anyone curious about food and drink at a serious level. The atmosphere is familiar and intimate, so please feel free to contact us with your inquiries, however modest or advanced.

Autumn 1966
A train arrives at Stockholm Central with Mariano Rodriguez from Spanish Salamanca. Having grown up in the Spanish countryside, where his mother Maria provided villages with indigenous delicacies, he dreams of introducing Swedes to the tastes he himself misses: fruity olive oil, savoury olives, nutty Pata Negra.
In 1995 he founded Viña Española and in 1997 Salmantinos Delikatesser, both trading in high-quality imports from small-scale producers.
In 2012 Mariano Rodriguez and Salmantinos Delikatesser were honoured by the M. Sandahl Foundation for meritorious development in gastronomy, and in 2014 he received the Spanish State Award for his contributions to Spanish food culture abroad. And Stockholm, thanks to Mariano, became a city where we can now enjoy all the good things that Spain has to offer. Today his life’s work is carried on by his son Sebastian, with the same care and the same search for the true flavours of Spain.
We are a family business, and that is how we work with customers and suppliers, like one big family. The Spanish way
The legacy
When the Swedish import monopoly was phased out in 1995, the foundation for our operations was laid. Today Viña Española collaborates with over 30 selected wineries in Spain and offers the full Spanish range, 200 different wines.
90% of the vineyards are, like us, family businesses where knowledge and culture pass on from generation to generation. We have opted out of bag-in-box. Wine is best kept in the natural product of pure glass.
In 1997 Salmantinos Delikatesser AB was founded, our exclusive importation of high-quality Spanish delicacies. “Salmantinos” is the traditional name for people from Salamanca, just like Mariano. It began with the olives, olive oils and cured meats he missed from his beloved Spain.
Large parts of our range are based on organic, origin-labelled delicacies from all over Spain. We are particularly known for products from the black Spanish Iberico pig, the exclusive Jamón Ibérico de Bellota Gran Reserva, also known as Pata Negra.

What we are especially known for. Hams from free-roaming Iberian pigs, air-cured for years into a deep, nutty richness. The flavour develops slowly, from grazing beneath the cork oaks of the Spanish dehesa to the patient curing in cool mountain air. We work with Montaraz, a producer who puts craft first and lets time do its work. The result is a ham with character and balance, and a round, lingering finish. This is Spanish craft in its purest form.
